Jackson’s Honest Company Overview
Jackson’s Honest offers all-natural potato and tortilla chips with the simple mission of “goodness: pass it on.”
The business was created to provide digestive comfort to their late son Jackson, who was diagnosed with Aicardi–Goutières syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease, in 2015. According to their website, their “goal is to make clean, simple products with as much of these nutrient-dense fats as we can in a great tasting and convenient form while spreading the word that ancestral fats are a critically important part of a balanced diet.”
Varieties include coconut oil-based sweet potato, sea salt & vinegar, barbeque, maple cinnamon and salsa fresca chips.
The Sharks “Chip in” with Some Offers
The sharks all agree that the chips taste amazing and are very inspired by their story.
Robert Herjavec likes the packaging and branding, while guest shark Rohan Oza commends them for breaking the mold in the food industry. Last year, they did $10.1 million in sales, but are not yet profitable. They expect, however, to become profitable next year and own two-thirds of the business.
Herjavec thinks there’s too much risk and goes out, followed by Lori Greiner and Mark Cuban. Barbara Corcoran likes the story and passion, but worries that they will be eaten alive so goes out. Ultimately, Oza decides to offer $1.25 million for 20 percent equity. They counter seven-and-a-half percent equity, which is countered by Oza with 17.5 equity.
The Reamers again counter at 10 percent, which Oza brings up to 15 percent. They accept.
