Pumpkins and devils and ghosts, oh my! The scariest night of the year is just weeks away and the National Retail Federation’s annual Halloween survey has offered a sneak peek into this year’s spookiest pet costumes—and they’re sure to scare up some serious cuteness.
The survey showed that 16 percent of people plan to celebrate Halloween by dressing their pets in costumes like bumble bees, devils, ghosts, and witches. This year’s most popular choices include pumpkin, hot dog, lion, pirate, and dog costumes. “Ten percent of pet owners will put their pets in pumpkin costumes, while 7 percent will choose hot dog outfits and 4 percent will go for lion, pirate, or dog costumes,” the survey reported. Additionally, this year’s top children’s costumes include superheroes, ghosts and Disney princesses, while popular adult costumes are slasher movie villains, vampires and Wonder Woman. Halloween spending is expected to reach a record-breaking $9.1 billion in 2017 as consumers splurge on costumes, candy and decorations.
