First into the tank are Joseph Parisi and Nick Nevarez of Guard Llama, seeking $100,000 for five percent equity.
Guard Llama offers an additional layer of security for real estate agents, students, runners and more. Their app/keychain combo is “designed to allow discrete contact of police during high-stress and life threatening situations,” according to their website. The app is used along with a compatible keychain, which when used in a dangerous situation, can drastically reduce response times by sending your GPS location, photo and medical history to emergency services.
They have 2,000 users and partners who use the service for their employees. Lori Greiner sees the potential at colleges and universities, but Mark Cuban thinks the product is “horrible.” He thinks as they grow, too many things will go wrong with the service. He goes out, followed by Greiner for liability concerns.
Kevin O’Leary doesn’t like the valuation but offers $100,000 for five percent, in addition to a five percent royalty until $120,000 is recouped. Guest shark Chris Sacca doesn’t think the branding is strong enough and worries about its ability to be proprietary. Barbara Corcoran likes the product and offers $100,000 as a loan for 20 percent with $2 per sale until money is recouped. They counter Corcoran at 15 percent, who comes back with 18 percent. They accept.

Each week on “Shark Tank,” budding entrepreneurs have the opportunity to pitch their emerging business to six multi-millionaire and billionaire investors, known as sharks: Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks; Daymond John, fashion mogul and founder of FUBU; Kevin O’Leary, self-proclaimed Mr. Wonderful and founder of O’Leary Financial Group; Barbara Corcoran, real estate maven; Lori Greiner, queen of QVC; and Robert Herjavec, technology guru and founder/CEO of the Herjavec Group. Venture capitalist Chris Sacca is also slated to appear as a guest shark this season.
“Shark Tank,” which is based on “Dragons’ Den,” is produced by Mark Burnett and first debuted in 2009. To date, the sharks have invested more than $87 million in various companies after engaging in numerous bidding wars and shark fights. A new episode airs each Friday at 9 p.m. on ABC.
