Tonight, President Barack Obama says goodbye to the nation as he delivers his presidential farewell address.
In an Instagram post last week, the White House shared a preview of the farewell address. “On Tuesday, January 10, I will return to Chicago to express my heartfelt goodbye to you, even if you can’t attend in person. I’m just starting to write my speech,” Obama wrote. “But I’m considering it as a chance to thank you for this incredible journey, to celebrate how you’ve improved this country over the past eight years, and to share some thoughts on where we go from here…I hope you’ll join me one last time. Because for me, it’s always been about you.”
Obama is set to discuss the last eight years and consider the future of the nation. As noted by Mic, it is typical for departing presidents to share their worries and hopes for what lies ahead. Obama also plans to express gratitude to his supporters and reflect on his legacy.
The farewell address airs Jan. 10 at 9 p.m. on most major news networks, including ABC, NBC and CNN. The speech will be delivered live from his hometown of Chicago.
