Make sure your business card stands out in the stack. Business cards are so much more than a rectangular piece of paper with contact information. Business cards serve as a first impression of you and your business. It’s important that your business card look professional and that you be “proud” to hand it out. The next time you order business cards, keep the following in mind:
- Make sure your business card has color. There is nothing that stands out about a plain white business card. I know they may appear more professional for some professions, but let’s face it, corporate white is super boring and so “yesterday”. When you consider the importance of a business card as the marketing piece it is, adding color makes it that much better a marketing piece and much easier to find in a stack.
- Include your latest head-shot photo. It’s a proven fact that people do business with people they know, like and trust. How much easier is it to remember a person’s name when their face is on their business card. It’s easier to recall conversation, the place you met, the product and the person when your head-shot is included on your business card. This is a biggie!
- Keep it simple. Your business card should be all of the above, without being cluttered with too much information. Include basic contact information (phone, fax, email, website and address). Giving people every phone number/email address you’ve ever had is way too much information, it looks desperate and it’s confusing. How are the people you hand your card to supposed to know which number to call? Keep It Simple.
- Include your company logo. Branding is important with any business and your logo is your “brand” as much as a cattle rancher who brands his cattle. Build a brand and advertise it until it becomes recognizable like Coke, Pepsi, Home Depot or Sears. Don’t stop branding until you’ve reached that level of brand recognition.
- Make sure your business cards are consistent with the rest of your marketing. With branding, color schemes and “the look” being consistent is important. Stay consistent and make sure you feature the color that pops! A business card from The Home Depot that is orange is way more likely to stand out in a stack vs. a Home Depot business card that’s white with an orange accent/logo.
- Make sure your business card is printed professionally. When you hand out business cards that are printed from your home computer, it looks like you handing out cards that were printed on your home printer. “Nuff” said. :-)
