Giada De Laurentiis doesn’t have a prenup, according to RadarOnline.com. Since the celebrity chef announced her separation from fashion designer Todd Thompson at the end of December, there has been no word of dividing assets until now. The couple were married for 12 years. After the separation announcement, Thompson filed for divorce the next day.
A source said, “They are going over assets now. But she is worth more than him, so she could lose out.”
Laurentiis, 44, has reportedly made an estimated $20 million. She has hosted four cooking shows, has a partnership with Barilla where she produces an Italian gourmet product line and sells another line of kitchen supplies with Target. Recently she opened her restaurant GIADA inside the Cromwell hotel in Las Vegas.
De Laurentiis not having a prenup doesn’t mean she’s not going to fight. When Thompson filed his petition, she was quick to respond indicating that she wants to keep her own possessions. According to the documents, she “believes she is possessed of separate property, the exact nature of which is unknown at this time.”
At least there is one thing the pair can agree on. They both want the court to award them joint physical and legal custody of their 6-year-old daughter Jade.
De Laurentiis had shared the news of their split through Facebook. She wrote: “After an amicable separation since July, Todd and I have decided to end our marriage. Although our decision to separate comes with a great deal of sadness, our focus on the future and overwhelming desire for our family’s happiness has given us the strength to move forward on separate, yet always connected paths.
“Todd and I share a beautiful daughter together,” the Giada at Home host continued, “and a lifetime of great memories that we both treasure more than anything. We are so thankful for our friends and family, and really appreciate the support in this time of change.”
Even though Giada De Laurentiis doesn’t have a prenup, she has said she is open to paying child support, whereas Thompson, 51, has asked that he not pay.
