Mario Lopez and Ali Landry were married for only two weeks before they called it quits. Rumors quickly surfaced that Lopez had cheated on Landry, which led to their very quick split. Years later the former Saved By The Bell actor has come forward to trash talk Landry for his memoir titled, Just Between Us.
The Extra host claims in his memoir that Landry quickly went from a good Catholic girl with great morals, to an image obsessed supermodel.
Lopez and Landry first met at the 1998 Miss Teen USA pageant, for which he writes “I thought this was the girl… She was a model, so she always had good style, she knew how to dress. And she was Catholic, very driven, ambitious, hardworking — but also charming and innocent at the same time. I could have been looking at a lot of criteria that were more on the surface than not. But that was my bad.”
The actor and news correspondent says things quickly changed as Ali Landry’s career took off and she rapidly turned into an “image-obsessed” model.
“The changes were subtle, but her interests sounded more materialistic and she seemed more preoccupied with image rather than substance, things I didn’t care about.” Lopez claims. “Our conversations became less based on common interests and more about her pressuring me to be a certain way, dress a certain way, act a certain way.”
After a short break up Mario Lopez and Ali Landry reunited, but she quickly gave him an ultimatum to propose or move on, things never went back up hill for the couple. Lopez engaged in an act of infidelity at his bachelor party and in his new book, he acknowledges that his infidelity led him to learn about his lack of true love for Landry.
A passage from Lopez’s book reads, “Once I took responsibility for my feelings, acknowledging how I had so mishandled my decisions, lightning hit me with the truth: I wasn’t in love. The thoughts came streaming in, but it was too late. My misgivings reared their ugly heads and I knew I should have broken things off with her before I strayed.”
Over the summer Ali Landry opened up about her marriage and relationship with Lopez for the first time in years. She told Oprah that she had believed Mario when he said no cheating occurred. She told Oprah, “All of my friends and family were flying down to this wedding in Mexico. So, I went through with the wedding.”
Lopez moved on and eventually married Courtney Mazza in Mexico on December 1, 2012. The couple have a daughter, Gia Francesca, 4, and a son, Dominic, who was born in December 2013.
No word from Mario Lopez’s agent on why the mud slinging against Ali Landry is occurring all these years later. The books title Just Between Us does seem a little misleading since Lopez is sharing his past relationships in such a public way.
