There has been a lot of hype around the new Great Gatsby film which is directed by Baz Luhrmann. The film was
Not only is the film highly anticipated my Gatsby fans, but it has just been announced that Baz Luhrmann’s 3-D adaption will actually be opening the Cannes Film Festival which is a great honor. The festival’s opening night will be May 15th and will run until May 26th. The jury president was also just recently announced, and this year it will be director, Steven Spielberg.
The festival will be held in the south of France, which is also where F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author of the novel, lived. Fitzgerald is said to have written the novel while he lived on the French Riviera where he moved with his wife in 1924. The book did not originally get good reviews, and was only seen as a masterpiece after Fitzgerald’s death.
The Great Gatsby will not be screened in the Cannon competition since it is the opening-night film because the opening-night films have always been screened outside of the competition. There is concern that if the film gets bad reviews after its premiere on May 10, it could put a damper on the reviews it gets at the festival. However, the film looks extremely promising so if it gets good reviews on May 10, it could improve the outcome at the festival.
