We’re only four days into 2017 and the new year is already looking promising. Why? It’s National Spaghetti Day!

According to Pasta Fits, “The first industrial pasta factory in America was built in Brooklyn in 1848 by, of all people, a Frenchman, who spread his spaghetti strands on the roof to dry in the sunshine.” Thomas Jefferson is credited with bringing the first “macaroni” machine to America. Though there’s no clear origin of spaghetti, it has been consumed for centuries. Spaghetti stories have included, according to the National Day Calendar, the largest bowl on record—more than 13,500 pounds that filled a swimming pool and “On Top of Spaghetti,” the classic foodie children’s song.

Whether you like your spaghetti with tomato sauce, Alfredo sauce, clam sauce, cheese or just plain microwaved, today’s the day to enjoy it—for any meal!
