Who needs fan mail when you can receive inspirational messages…on a potato? That’s exactly what Kevin Durant received in the mail Friday afternoon, courtesy of a very popular “Shark Tank” alum.
Durant posted an image of the message on Twitter, captioning it, “Treatment and inspirational potatoes. Thanks, whoever you are.” The Golden State Warriors forward is currently being treated for a knee injury. The inspirational potato message reads, “Wishing you a quick recovery KD! Hope this stupid potato eases the pain.”

Who exactly is behind the inspirational potato gift? None other than Potato Parcel, who appeared on “Shak Tank” last year. The sharks laughed about their idea at first but no longer viewed it as a total joke when they learned that potato message masterminds Alex Craig and Riad Bekhit did more than $200,000 in sales—before appearing on the hit ABC show. Ultimately, they scored a $50,000 deal with Kevin O’Leary.
According to For the Win, they sent about 150 potatoes to various NBA players, including Dirk Nowitzki, Hassan Whiteside and Frank Kaminsky. Being a big fan of the NBA and knowing the playoffs were approaching, Bekhit decided to send the random gifts. The #DirkPotato quickly took off on social media as Potato Parcel took credit for the gift on Twitter. Soon, other NBA players were sharing photos of their own potato present.

Social media was clearly impressed as well. ESPN sports business analyst Darren Rovell wrote on Twitter, “Potato Parcel, which Mark Cuban on Shark Tank called ‘stupid on a stick,’ seems to be doing pretty well over the past couple weeks.” Others wondered how they too could be graced with such a unique gift. Everyone wants in on the potato madness.
