The digital age is constantly improving access to all kinds of media and resources through an overwhelmingly large number of devices that it’s hard to keep track. One of the biggest phenomenons is social media, and there are plenty of choices out there. There are usually age restrictions that apply but there are ways around these if you are clever enough and once one person finds it, they spread it around quickly.
What should you watch out for?
I’m not saying social media is bad, but there are some things on there that you might not want your kids to see – especially at younger ages. There are number of other issues such as bullying and exclusion which can happen digitally as well and they can be just as harmful as problems in real life.
While your kids may – and let’s face it, they probably will – balk at you having any part of their social presence, your supervision can help catch these issues early and prevent them from escalating as well as preparing your child for what may come in the future, and they will appreciate it in the future – just a very long time away.
