Tuesday night was the last night for the battle rounds on this season of “The Voice.” The coaches paired off the remaining members of their teams and with help from guest mentors, Ed Sheeran, Ryan Tedder, Miguel and Ch
er, they got them ready for the battles.
First up was Team Green with Johnny Gray against Shawn Smith singing “Refugee.” The song challenged both of them with its rhythm and phrasing. Despite problems during rehearsal, they were able to select a genre and natural sound that allowed them to have a great performance on stage. Green kept Gray on his team, sending Smith home.
Next up was Barry Black and Preston Pohl from Adam’s team singing “I Wish It Would Rain.” After their performance,Christina and Cee Lo said how they liked Pohl’s soulful timbre to which Adam agreed and Pohl moved on.
Christina put Olivia Henken against Stephanie Ann Johnson and had them sing “Done.” During rehearsal, Christina worked with them to try to get them to be more sassy and bring more attitude which seemed to work because they incorporated it into the battle. In the end, Christina chose Henken because of his consistency. Cee Lo then quickly snatched up Johnson with a steal.
There were also a few battles that were not shown in entirety. Instead, the episode just quickly ran through the battles that were not shown:
- Shelton’s Holly Henry vs. Cilla Chan singing “Torn.” Henry won.
- Shelton’s Emily Randolph vs. Brandon Chase singing “Tiny Dancer.” Chase won.
- Green’s Tamara Chauniece vs. Keaira LaShae singing “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” Chauniece won.
And that concluded the battle rounds. Up next, the battle rounds which is like a sudden-death matchup and each singer can choose his/her own song. There is a new addition for this season as well: each coach as one more steal for the upcoming round. The first of the knockout rounds will begin Monday.
