Many Americans love criticizing the federal government and saying it can’t do anything right. The belief that the American government can’t effectively help the people has become widespread. However, the truth is that the government has succeeded in many ways that have made our lives better. For example, the federal government created the interstate highway system; without these highways, urban areas would be more congested. Increased shipping costs would raise product prices, and vacation travel would be limited. With 65,000 miles of highways across 50 states, there’s no doubt that the government got this one right.

The federal government has also gotten it right by securing our energy supply. The government has enacted new fuel economy standards for all passenger vehicles. Based on projections, average fuel efficiency among vehicles in 2025 will be 54.5 miles/gallon. This will save the average consumer over $8,000 in fuel costs. Our foreign oil dependency has also dropped significantly in recent years.

In addition to these two things, the government has also gotten it right by investing in communications, encouraging education, and promoting public health.
