There are the 1% who really don’t care about saving $100 on their taxes—they’re not paying their fair share anyway—and (as mentioned in the GSElevator) believe that if the cost of drinks doesn’t matter, then it’s always happy hour. Then, there’s another group of people. We’ll call them the 99%. They could always use an extra $100. While these savings won’t make you rich, they can help reduce your recurring monthly bills. Check out how in this graphic from TurboTax.
If your average broadband Internet bill is $40, your savings from filing your taxes alone could cover that bill for 2.5 months. You could buy school supplies for one of your kids. If you have more than one, you could set up a fun competition, invite the neighbors, and let them compete until one is declared the winner. If you have pets, those little blessings could have their costs covered for a month and a half (you might even consider treating your cat to Fancy Feast). If you’re on your own cell phone plan, you could pay the bill for a month if it’s $71. The only issue is (as anyone with an iPhone knows) their bill is usually around $90-$100 or more.
Just by looking around the house, you could find a myriad of other ways to use that $100. So don’t be shy. Cruise through the living room and look for light bulbs that could be replaced. Maybe you need a new rug for the bathroom? Or, you’d just like to treat yourself on a Friday night with a nice bottle of Merlot, and a new vinyl album serenading you from the record player. Just remember that whatever you decide to do with the $100, is more than you could without it.
