When it comes to on-page SEO there are loads and loads of tips out there, which is why when I came across this infographic from Brian Dean from Backlinko I wanted to share it with you.
It condenses ideas into practical strategies that you can start implementing on your website today, and more importantly they are strategies both your reader and search engines will love.
My on-page SEO takeaways
The full infographic is below but here are my three main takeaways:
- Use SEO-friendly URLs
Make sure to include your keyword in your URL and review the default settings for creating new pages and blog posts on your site. Google has mentioned that the first 3-5 words in a URL are more important, so avoid spindle-tree.co.uk/p=123; instead, use spindle-tree.co.uk/on-page-seo-tips. - Use modifiers in your page or blog post title
I’ve written before about long-tail keywords, and adding modifiers such as Using modifiers like “2016”, “best”, “guide”, and “review” can help you rank for long tail keywords and give you a big boost in traffic to your website. - Use your keyword in the first 100 words
The keyword you are targeting for your page or blog post should be included in the first 100 words of your article. This helps search engines and their crawlers grasp the topic of your article. Avoid a rambling or unclear introduction; instead, get straight to the point. Your readers and Google will appreciate it.
Content is still king
In addition to the points in the infographic, I would also add that you need to write quality content. Writing awesome quality content benefits you in two ways, firstly, people reading your content will stay on your website longer and perhaps comment on your post which can help improve your search engine rankings. And secondly, awesome content that is helpful and educates your readers helps you develop a relationship with them so that when they decide to buy it’s you the come to first. Remember, people buy from people they like, know and trust.
To make the most of your on-page SEO and bring more organic traffic to your website take a look at the full infographic and use it as a simple checklist that will bring in more search engine traffic from every piece of content that you publish.
