Sometimes you just can’t make this stuff up.  On Monday night in Ferguson, Missouri where the nation watches as a St. Louis Grand Jury decides whether or not to indict a police officer in the death of Michael Brown, Senator Jamilah Nasheed arrived with a male companion in tow and promptly moved into the street in front of the local police station in direct violation of a local safety ordinance.  St. Louis County Police spokesman Sgt. Brian Schellman stated that commanders with county police spoke with protesters about the ordinance and warned them that anyone in violation would be arrested.  Nasheed and her companion were approached several times and warned before they were placed into custody.

But that is not the end of the story.

When questioned by police it was discovered that the gun-control advocating Senator had a fully loaded 9mm pistol in her possession along with additional ammunition.  To further complicate the situation,  sources told KMOV in St. Louis that Ferguson police requested a breathalyzer test for Nasheed because she “smelled strongly of intoxicants.”  After refusing to take the test, the Senator said on Tuesday that she was not intoxicated at the time and her arrest Monday evening in Ferguson was simply a “symbolic” act to promote peaceful protest.

Nasheed was formally charged with Failure to Obey Lawful Order of Police and Manner of Walking in the Roadway.  She was released from St. Ann jail before 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.

And it doesn’t end there, either.

On Tuesday afternoon, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon announced a commission to review the the social and economic conditions in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson that have fed ongoing race-related protests following the police shooting of Michael Brown.  State Senator Nasheed is strongly suspected to be involved in leading the direction of the commission once established.

Social media has been having a field day with the developments in and around Ferguson the last 24 hours, including a bogus twitter account for the governor.
