Interstellar star Jessica Chastain is an unapologetic mama’s girl. The 37-year-old actress appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show Monday, where she wished her mom a happy birthday and revealed that she had bought her a vegan food truck to celebrate.
Chastain’s mother, Jerry Hastey, is a vegan chef, so the gift was totally appropriate, the actress said. Additionally, the purchase is meant to help Hastey take her business on the go.
“It’s called Seed On The Go and it’s very, very exciting,” Chastain explained to Degeneres. “She used to have a restaurant and now she’s more mobile.”
Naturally, going mobile opens up some new business opportunities for the vegan chef.
“So she can just drive around her restaurant anywhere she wants to go,” Chastain laughed.
Jessica Chastain’s vegan food truck then appeared on the screen behind the two. Hastey is seen peeking through the service window with a glass of wine.
Chastain clarified, though, that her mother’s business doesn’t actually serve wine. Chastain joked that she reprimanded her mom for sending mixed messages.
“The funny thing is, that [photo] was on her Facebook page and she was really excited about the food truck. I checked her Facebook and said, ‘Mom, you don’t get the whole truck and wine thing. You can’t sit in the driver’s seat with a glass of wine hanging out the window!’” she said.
After her success in Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi hit, Chastain will next appear in J.C. Chandor’s crime drama A Most Violent Year with Oscar Isaac. There are also rumors that she is being approached for a villain role in Xavier Dolan’s upcoming film The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, which is a satire about gossip media. A fan of Dolan’s films, Chastain has reportedly read the script and really enjoyed it.
