Twitter has a new logo. I know…who cares, right? Especially since the change is from a blue bird to a …..wait for it…a blue bird.

Along with the new logo, came new guidelines of how others are allowed to use the logo. Pictured below are all the ways in which we’re not allowed to use Twitter’s new logo.

Basically, you’re not allowed to flip the bird .

Illusion of Control

Some lawyers got together and decided that in order to protect Twitter’s brand, they needed to pontificate about the right and wrong usage of the logo. No doubt, brand experts were at hand to offer up their advice.

Since Social Internet is destroying many established notions of how to do business, I hope, that some day soon, the notion of “lawyering up” will vanish as well.

Any protection of your logo (or anything else for that matter) being used in whatever way someone feels like using, is illusory. What is Twitter going to do about it? Sew everybody? Wel…lawyers would certainly like that.

The Backlash

Already, many sites are pissing all over Twitter’s logo by turning it into whatever they want.

Some are turning the bird into superheros.

Twitter Sonic the Hedgehog Vs. Twitter Batman.

It must cause a special kind of pain to be mocked on your own platform, ey Twitter?

Defacing the Bird

So, what happens if you violate Twitter’s new logo guidelines? It would appear, nothing.

So, I decided to get in on the action and do a little defacing of my own.

I call this one Fairy Pirate Godmother with a Goiter :-)

Stupid? Yes. Fun? Mos def. Why? You think you can do better?

Be my guest. Do a little defacement of your own and leave a link in the comments so we can check it out.

Final Word

Is yours.
