Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Flipboard 0 In a recent development according to PTI, the social network video platform YouTube has partnered with entertainment firm Graphic India and renowned comic book writer Grant Morrison to launch an animated web series on the epic Mahabharata titled ’18 days’. The web series – ’18 days’ is a part of YouTube’s ongoing Geek Week – a virtual event from August 4 through 10, to celebrate the geek culture where fans can check out original content from some of the best online nerd commentators. YouTube is looking to celebrate with those who enjoy shows like “Game of Thrones”, “The Big Bang Theory”, “Harry Potter”, and more. This event will cater towards fans of superheroes, comics, science fiction, gaming, and whatever else is deemed “geek”. The first episode of the series will be released today, while subsequent episodes will be later launched exclusively on YouTube. In fact, an exclusive trailer was uploaded on YouTube to coincide with the San Diego Comic-Con International, a multigenre convention held annually in California, United States. The video got a great response and is being said that it got more than 150,000 views within the first few days of its release. Going further the series will feature weekly episodes through the year and will be distributed exclusively on the Graphic India YouTube Channel and will be in English, Hindi and Tamil. In fact the first two episodes of the series have already been uploaded in all languages and are doing well. Episode one – ‘The Tale of the Four Ages’ which was uploaded a day ago has got more than 33K views. The story is of three generations of super-warriors, meeting for the final battle of their age. A re-imagining of the great eastern myth, Mahabharata, and follows the course of the climactic war that concludes the age of the gods and begins the age of man. To make more buzz the series has made a presence on Google Plus but hardly there is any buzz on the platform. Google has been forging with content providers for YouTube to provide exclusive content to users worldwide. Bringing an epic story in multi-languages and partnering with Grant Morrison who has been known for his work with DC Comics’ Animal Man, Batman, The Invisibles, etc. will not only raise the bar of high quality animated version in the country but will address to a larger global audience as well. For Graphic India which was launched recently and is owned by the US comic book company, Liquid Comics and CA Media LP the series has not only got the names like Morrison and Pentagram for music it also gets a platform like YouTube during the Geek Week – another attempt by YouTube to highlight its Channel initiative that launched in October 2012.
