IPL madness is about to hit the country. To be ahead in the game, telecom operator Vodafone India has struck a strategic partnership with Star India to create a multi-sports offering – Vodafone Sports portal on Vodafone Live. The latest value added service offering will allow its customers to enjoy live cricket, football and hockey action along with curated sporting action on feature phones as well as smartphones. With time customers will also be able to enjoy other sports like F1, tennis, etc.
According to Vodafone, while customers will get the opportunity to catch the live action on the go, they would also get to watch unadulterated content, including all the latest news, trivia, scores and results, interactive video scorecards, exclusive insight and analysis, columns, photos and wallpapers across sports.
Besides the premium content, Vodafone customers would also get access to archived video content, such as the best of Sachin Tendulkar’s straight drives to Ronaldo’s best goals, created from over 10,000 hours of cricket footage.
Vodafone sees this move as its gradual evolution of digital content offering on the mobile screens. Sharing his thoughts on the tie up, Vivek Mathur, Chief Commercial Officer, Vodafone India adds that the launch of Vodafone Sports is an industry-first initiative following the recent launch of Vodafone Music few months ago. “It complements our strategy to expand our digital offering and tailor it to mobile internet users who are increasingly consuming content on the go,” shared the CEO.
For Star India the latest tie up would mean expanding its already established go to destination of international sports service Starsports.com on mobile for a new audience. With time Star has made the new destination of sports technologically rich and it plans to bring features like HD quality streaming on mobile for Vodafone customers.
One can send a simple text message to 111 or visit live.vodafone.in/sports or vodafone.starsports.com on the Vodafone mobile for the Vodafone Sports feature. To make it affordable Vodafone has introduced subscription for a day or a month and even per content cost. For example one can watch a match at Rs. 20 and at the same time a particular video at Rs. 3/5.
With Times Internet tying up with STAR India for digital distribution of the IPL matches this time, Vodafone customers are all set to experience the T20 madness on the go. Premium and curated content for on the go devices are the need of the time. With India being the world’s fastest growing smartphone market, Vodafone and Star have just caught the pulse with this partnership.
