“If Cricket is a religion then Sachin is the God” – no ardent fan of the game can deny this thought. The little master or better known as the ‘God of Indian Cricket’ – Sachin Tendulkar after playing for the last 24 years for the country, has decided to hang his boots once for all after his 200th test match.

The highest run scorer in both Tests and ODIs, with 15,837 runs in 198 Tests and 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs finally took a call today. While announcing his retirement, he said, “It’s hard to imagine a life without playing cricket because it’s all I’ve ever done since I was 11.”

With 100 international centuries under his belt, the master who made his international debut aged 16 in November 1989 further added, “All my life, I have had a dream of playing cricket for India. I have been living this dream every day for the last 24 years.”

While the decision might not be an easy one for Sachin, his fans have already started expressing their love, respect and sadness. I am also one of them and feel like Indian cricket has seen an end of a cricketing era with the greats including Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and now Sachin hanging their boots.

While TV might be playing the same news, netizens jumped on Twitter to express their reaction about the decision. The news within no time dominated the India Twitter Trends and hashtags – #LegendBowsOut, #ThankYouSachin, #SachinRetires, #SaluteTheLegend, among others have been dominating. It goes without saying that my Twitter and Facebook timeline have been swamped by the big news.
