After Facebook shared what Indians have been talking about on the social network in 2013, Twitter and Google have followed suit. Both the tech giants have come up with their yearly report with interesting insights.

The Google Google Zeitgeist 2013 India report

Google Zeitgeist 2013, the report that talks about what people searched on the search giant, has shared the Top Trending, Most Searched, Movies, News Events, among others. Bollywood movie Chennai Express tops the most trending subject followed by the T20 cricket championship IPL 2013. In the most searched section, Indian Railway website IRCTC dominates the list followed by sports website Crickinfo among others. The other search items are listed below:

1. Most Searhed Bollywood Female Actor: Katrina Kaif

2. Most searched Bollywood Male Actor: Salman Khan

3. Most searched Bollywood Movie: Aashiqui2

4. Most searched people: Sunny Leone

5. Most searched phone: Samsung Galaxy S4

6. Most searched politician: Narendra Modi

In addition to this, Google provides a timeline of searched items based on your location. For example I am based out in Pune, so Google has created a timeline for me to check out the various searched terms around the year listing by each day.

Twitter India, which has expanded its base in the country with the IPO happening this year itself, came up with its Twitter India roundup. Rishi Jaitly, India Market Director shared how India adopted the platform which is a challenging market for the 140 character social network.

In 2013, people in India used Twitter to discuss sports, politics, television and news events that were both local and global.

The country loved tweeting about cricket this year, with some of the top trends including #ThankYouSachin, #IndvsAus and #IPL.

Topics like trouble in Syria and Egypt, to the devastating Uttarakhand Floods and Cyclone Phailin were also discussed on the network. Besides Twitter’s strong push for second screen experience did also find acceptance by the users in the country.

Programmes such as #BB7, #ThePerfectBachelor and #KoffeeWithKaran did see a good number of fans tweeting in real time and engaging with brands while participating in contests.

Twitter India also shared a snapshot of the trends that dominated the Indian charts based on different categories in 2013. #Conclave13 was at the top of the events category, #AfzalGuru was at the top of the news category, Modi in politics, #ThankYouSachin in Cricket among others. The year also witnessed celebrities like Anil Kapoor (@AnilKapoor), Sridevi (@SrideviBKapoor), Saina Nehwal (@NSaina), Sourav Ganguly (@SouravGanguly) and the Indian Army (@adgpi) joining the network.
