The Punjab Government being run under the leadership of Parkash Singh Badal is facing the heat from the opposition on the drug racket case. The opposition Punjab Congress has demanded a CBI probe for the case but surprisingly former CM and party member Captain Amarinder Singh has opposed the CBI probe. This has obviously created a rift inside the opposition party. Reports are saying that Amarinder has gone social and is making his stand clear on the issue by posting it on his Facebook page.

Amarinder Singh has taken to social media to not only clarify his position over the demand for a CBI probe into the drug trade, but also to take feedback from his followers on Facebook, on whether he is right in taking a stand that is not only against his own party but also echoes the views of the rival party.

The difference of opinion came up when former chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal raised questions on the CM’s silence on the issue of Revenue and NRI Affairs Minister Bikram Singh Majithia’s alleged involvement in the drug racket. While the opposition demanded a CBI inquiry Amarinder stood isolated for opposing CBI probe in synthetic drug racket case.

Meanwhile Amarinder has been posting his thoughts on his Facebook page which has a fan following of close to 500. As shared on his page the former CM stated that, “Giving this investigation to CBI at this stage will only mean delaying it to the advantage of the criminals and smugglers. Since they know they have been nailed, their only defence at this stage is to get it delayed and they can get it delayed only if the investigation is handed over to some other agency including the CBI as it will have to begin afresh. Last thing I would like is to get the investigations delayed.”

The posts haven’t received good response but it is interesting to see a former CM use Facebook to communicate his stance.
