Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Flipboard 0 Buddy_Nath / Pixabay Beware the Lizard Man! The South Carolina Emergency Management Division is not taking any chances when it comes to possible paranormal activity in connection with the upcoming solar eclipse—and they’re warning visitors to stay alert. “Regarding possible paranormal activity potentially occurring during the #SolarEclipse2017,” the South Carolina Emergency Management Division tweeted last week. “As always, if you see something, say something.” Accompanying their total eclipse safety tips tweet was a map of possible Lizard Man sightings over the years. “SCHEMD does not know if Lizardmen become more active during a solar eclipse, but we advise that residents of Lee and Sumter counties should remain ever vigilant.” Regarding possible paranormal activity potentially occurring during the #SolarEclipse2017. As always, if you see something, say something. pic.twitter.com/O3IuYhHzqB — SCEMD (@SCEMD) August 9, 2017 According to Fortune, Lizard Man is a very popular local legend. “It’s basically the state’s version of Bigfoot, only with less hair and more scales.” The most recent sighting was in 2015 when the mysterious creature was spotted near South Carolina’s Scape Ore Swamp. The South Carolina Emergency Management Division explained that the Lizard Man map was meant to be a joke in response to a “Sunsquatch” map that was created by NASA to match the path of the solar eclipse with reported Bigfoot sightings. The once-in-a-lifetime astronomical phenomenon will darken the skies on Aug. 21 and will be visible from Oregon to South Carolina. Other urban legends associated with the celestial event include the eclipse being dangerous to pregnant women and an ancient belief that a fire-eating dragon actually swallows the sun.
