Tru Access Blog - Jiminy Cricket's Advice to Millennials

Do you guys remember Jiminy Cricket? Well for those that don’t, Jiminy was literally a cricket. He was a character in the Walt Disney Film Pinocchio. Jiminy was created for one purpose and known for one incredibly sound piece of advice.

“Let your conscience be your guide!” That was the advice that Jiminy offered Pinocchio. That simple piece of advice resulted in Pinocchio having a much more successful journey in achieving his dreams than he would have had otherwise.

Pinocchio was a wooden boy for those of you who have not seen the movie. You, on the other hand are NOT a wooden boy. Your life is also not a Disney Movie. Or is it?

You do have something in common with Pinocchio. You need, guidance and direction to help accomplish your goals and dreams. To help you achieve your career goals, I am offering the following as my best Jiminy Cricket impersonation.

You obviously do not have Jiminy Cricket following you around everywhere you go to remind you what to do or say in times of indecision. You can however use these guiding principles from the Four Way Rotary Test of the things we think, say or do…

1. First, is it the truth? 2. Second, is it fair to all concerned? 3. Third, will it build good will and strengthen relationships? 4. And Fourth, will it benefit everyone that’s involved and not just you?

I want to send a special shout out to my man Larry K. who shared the Rotary Four Way Test with me and has allowed me to share it with all of you!

If you ever find yourself struggling with the Four Way Test above, then simply let your conscience be your guide!

Please share any guiding principles that have worked for you that I can share with others.
