Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Flipboard 1 There’s no shortcut to effective content marketing. You’ve got to lay the foundation; you’ve got to do the legwork. If you’re not investing ample time into original, compelling content creation; if you’re not strategizing for the long term, crafting an editorial calendar weeks, if not months in advance; and if you’re not engaging social media followers on a daily basis, then you’re not suddenly going to stumble into freak, accidental content marketing success. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few quick tricks of the trade that can help you fine-tune your efforts. Take Twitter. Your Twitter marketing campaign is nothing without a sound strategy and plenty of compelling content. If you’ve got those elements in place, and you’re ready to take things to the next level, consider the following three Twitter hacks—simple tweaks to your strategy that may yield big results. 1. Schedule all of your tweets to go out either right before or right after the hour. Timing is everything on Twitter; there is such a high volume of activity on this social platform that your tweets are liable to get lost in the shuffle. To maximize their visibility, you’ve got to time them right—you’ve got to send them out when your targeted audience is really using Twitter. This means not tweeting at 2:00 a.m., it means focusing on days of the week that get more Twitter traction—it means all of that. But here’s something else it means: The best time to tweet is not at, say, 10:25 a.m., or even at 10:00 on the dot. The best time to send out a tweet is often going to be 9:57 a.m., or 10:02. The reason is simple: Say you’re a busy executive or a small business owner, and you have an hour-long meeting scheduled from 9:00 in the morning until 10:00. The meeting doesn’t last quite as long as you thought, so at around 10:55 or so you find yourself with a few minutes of won time before your next appointment begins. This is an ideal time to check Twitter. A related tip: Schedule some tweets to go out around common lunch and dinner times—because once again, you’re looking at an awful lot of busy folks who are likely to be taking a quick break for tweeting. 2. Follow or favorite everyone who retweets you. Here’s another quick strategy to get more out of your Twitter activity. Monitor all the mentions of your username; set aside five or 10 minutes each morning to do this. Every time someone retweets you, follow them, or at the very least favorite their tweet. These are Twitter users who have already proven that they have some interest in what you’re saying—which makes them ideal users to add to your sphere of influence. By following this simple strategy, you can significantly and meaningfully grow your follower base every single day. 3. Offer something exclusive. Why am I following this person on Twitter? If your own Twitter followers ever ask that question, it’s probably a sign that you’re not offering them anything valuable. Nip this in the bud by offering something to your Twitter followers that’s not only valuable, but also exclusive. The best way to do this is to offer some kind of a promo. “Mention this tweet/use this promo code to get 10 percent off your next purchase.” “For the next hour, all of our Twitter followers get free shipping on any order!” Offer exclusives that can’t be found on your website or on your other social media accounts—letting your Twitter followers feel like they’re in on something really special. These hacks may seem simple enough, yet they could do wonders for your company’s content marketing campaign. The team at Grammar Chic can offer further assistance.
