Wal-Mart announced on Tuesday that they will be entering the smartphone trade-in market by offering a new in-store smartphone trade-in program. The company made the announcement amidst the Apple event today announcing the new iPhone 5C and 5S.

Wal-Mart currently accepts trade-ins on their website, but plans to extend that service to their stores. Smartphone owners can trade in their phones to participating stores for credit towards a new smartphone with a 2-year contract. The retailers stated that smartphones owners would get anywhere from $50 to $300 in in-store credit based on the condition of the phone they trade in.

The promotion includes participating Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores where trade-ins can take place. Consumers have to bring in the phone, answer a few questions about the phone’s condition and specifications. If the phone is accepted, then owners will be given store credit that can be used to purchase another phone. Wal-Mart also guarantees that every part of trade-in phones will be recycled.

The new program will start Sept. 21 and follows Apple’s announcement of their trade-in program last week.
