Today I came across an article on TechCrunch and was fairly surprised that this was even published, but I guess it shows just how “politically correct” our world has become. The article talks about how the latest expansion to the popular Facebook game Farmville is racist.

From what I gathered from the article the expansion is being called racist because it deals with dragons, rice paddies, and pandas. These are all things associated with Asian culture so I’m not sure how this can lead to people throwing out the term “racist”. I don’t remember the last time I saw a panda in a Long Island downtown, but I guess associating them with Asia is now racist.

I am not upset with only this article, but by how “politically correct” the entire world has become. Someone can’t say anything slightly controversial without receiving an incredible backlash. What happened to free speech and being able to speak your mind openly? I am not condoning hate speech in any way, so don’t misconstrue my intent, but I don’t think everyone should have to use the same words as someone else and share the same opinions.

The entire world is becoming overly sensitive. This is even happening in the world of comedy, which is one place where it should never happen. If something is said in jest, especially by a professional comedian, they shouldn’t be forced to apologize for their joke.

The last wild frontier that has an absence of being overly “politically correct” is the Internet and the world of social media. This has less to do with how things are being regulated and more to do with people being able to hide behind aliases, but that’s a whole different blog for a different time. For now, stop being so politically correct and feel free to speak your mind a bit.
