We all want to make money when we are older. Being successful in life is important, which is why you went to college right? If you are trying to get a job right out of college, there are certain majors you might want to look into. If you don’t necessarily mind being unemployed as soon as you leave college, there are other majors that might strike your fancy. A list has been compiled about which major pays the most money, and which majors may leave you unemployed. Which major is going to be best for you and your future plans?

Top Five Majors with the Highest Unemployment:

  1. Architecture 10.6%
  2. Linguistics & comparative literature 10.2%
  3. International Business 8.5%
  4. General social sciences 8.2%
  5. Commercial art & graphic design 8.1%

This is just five of the 15 that were listed. It surprises me that architecture is number one. You wouldn’t think that such a well known occupation would be so difficult. If you are thinking about one of these majors, you may want to reconsider. With the hard economy right now, you may find it really hard to get a job. Find something that you still really love but that gives you better odds for getting a job out of college.

Top Five Majors with the Lowest Unemployment:

  1. Medical technology technician 1.4%
  2. Nursing 2.2%
  3. Treatment therapy professions 2.6%
  4. Agriculture 3.0%
  5. Pharmacy 3.2%

Four of these majors are medical-related. That is a good indication that majors that have to with medicine are more lucrative than other majors. If you think you would like to do something like this, I would jump on board. It’s a hard major but it will be worth it when you are making money right after graduation.

Popular majors with the lowest salaries:

  1. Elementary education
  2. General education
  3. Psychology
  4. Sociology

I know a lot of people who are in these majors, and they don’t mind that they are low-paying. If you love these majors, go for it! However, know that you won’t be making loads of money. However, if this is what you love to do, who cares? Do something you love, and don’t let anything stop you.

Popular majors with the highest salary:

  1. Electrical Engineering
  2. Computer Science
  3. Economics
  4. Finance

If you are interested in any of these majors, you will have a better chance at making a high salary. Majors like this take a lot of work, but they are worth it in the end. When you are picking a major, remember to do something you love. Money does not necessarily matter.
