The rumors have begun circulating and apparently Google will soon make an entrance into the smartwatch market.
According to 9to5Google, the tech giant may be just about wrapping up their new smartwatch codenamed ‘Gem’. The news is being cited to an anonymous source that indicates a new Google watch that will be paired with an Android smartphone. Some experts believe that the watch may feature various functionalities of Google Glass and Google Now.
Google Now is a service that was recently announced to help boost market share for mobile and wearable devices. The service acts as a personal assistant of sorts and can answers questions, display information such as e-mails, directions and other data that may appear on your smartphone. However, Google is apparently focusing on longer battery life and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, 9to5Google reported. The article also features a recent report from writer Artem Russakovskii, who stated that, “Google will announce a Nexus Watch, codenamed Gem, likely together with the KitKat announcement.” This announcement according to Russakovskii will be made on October 31st.
The rumors and Russakovskii’s report are amidst Google’s recent acquisition of smartwatch maker WIMM labs and the recent smartwatch related patents filed by the tech company. However, some believe that the release of the smartwatch by the end of the month is far from likely, as the tech giant may soon be releasing the Google Nexus 5. For now the rumors surrounding the new smartwatch have yet to be confirmed, but as many experts have pointed out it will be interesting to note how Google handles some of the challenges surrounding wearable devices.
