Aditi Restaurant Trends On Twitter After Congress Men Shut Down The Restaurant In Mumbai

One wrong move and you are ripped apart on social media. If the act is carried out by a political party then no one can save them getting trended for all the wrong reasons and let the world know about the act. The latest act is driven by the representatives of the Congress Youth Wing in Mumbai. The party workers failed to digest the humor on the printed bills by the restaurant, Aditi Pure Veg. The bills had printed a note slamming the UPA government’s latest move for taxing on AC restaurants.

According to Mid Day, around 30-35 angry congress workers of the Indian Youth Congress swamped the popular restaurant in Parel, opposite KEM Hospital, because the owner had started printing ‘defamatory’ material against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) central government on food bills.

The supporters were led by Ganesh Kumar Yadav, city president of the party’s youth wing, and party MLA Kalidas Kolambkar, who asked to shut the shop. Later the matter was informed to the Bhoiwada police and a subsequent non-cognisable complaint was registered under Section 501 of IPC against the owner of Aditi restaurant, Srinivas Shetty.

The Congress workers have justified the move. Sandeep Pansade, general secretary, south-central region of Youth Congress added that the owner should have gone the legal way if he has some issues rather than defaming the party.

The matter has been settled for now and the restaurant owner has promised that he will not circulate those bills now. However, the owner, Srinivas Shetty has a different story to share,

“It’s been 15 days since I got this thing printed on the bills, and many customers came and congratulated me over this. Since I had received praise for the act, I did not think something like this would come up. In fact, I had thought of this idea when the law enforcing service tax at all AC restaurants came out. I had wanted to do it since a long time and I did it.”

Shetty. who has had to suffer losses, had to shut down the AC section of his restaurant altogether. He states that in an independent country he has the right to express his views.

Freedom of expression and information holds no ground today in a country that boasts of being the world’s biggest democracy. Last year we saw how two girls – Shaheen Dhada and Rinu Srinivasan were locked up in jail for a mere Facebook activity. Both the girls were arrested for posting a comment on Facebook that Mumbai should not have shut down on account of Bal Thackeray‘s death. The entire episode turned out murky since the police under political pressure took the girls into custody under section 66-A. Meanwhile, Shaheen’s uncle’s hospital was vandalized by the local goons.

The restaurant is back in business with fresh printed bills but was the act justified even if the Youth Congress supporters didn’t take the law in their hands.
