Apple is preparing for the inaugural launch of its first Macs running M3 chips by the end of 2023, at the earliest according to a report from someone reliable, who leaked the details. Along with the Macs would be an “M3 Pro” modification of the Apple Silicon variant.
The American multinational technology company known for designing, developing, and selling consumer electronics, computer software, and online services, has been releasing into the market more Macs running on M2 chips.
It is only a matter of time before the Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne founded company starts churning out M3-powered devices for its consumers.
According to the reliable source, Apple is currently testing its M3 chips, which are expected to phase out the M2 generation towards the end of the year.
Apple Testing a New Chip – Mark Gurman
Bloomberg’s writer, Mark Gurman in his “Power On” newsletter has been exploring the App Store developer log, which according to him shows that Apple is testing its M3 chip.
The system-on-chip (SoC) Gurman is referring to features “a 12-core CPU, an 18-core GPU, and using 36GB of memory,” AppleInsider reported.
Gurman said that the CPU encompasses six high-performance cores in addition to six cores, implying a two-efficiency-core tick-up over the 10-core CPU that is mainly used in the entry-level M2 Pro.
Keeping that in mind, it is possible for the M3 Max to roll out with the same gain to 14 CPU cores and a plausible more than 40 GPU cores. As for the M3 Ultra, consumers could be looking at 28 CPU cores and more than 80 GPU cores.
Apple M3 Chip Line – The First to Use TSMC’s 3-Nanometer Process
Apple’s new chip line could be the first in the world to use the nanometer process by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC) and will come bearing numerous benefits including a significant increase in the density of cores, a higher probability of power savings, and possibly improved thermal management.
Gurman says he has reason to believe the chip described would be the base variant of the M3 Pro likely to be integrated into the upcoming update of the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro, expected to hit the market in early 2024.
While rumors had previously suggested that the M3 chip would arrive as soon as April 2023 in the 15-inch MacBook Air, it seems that those predictions were incorrect.
Instead, it is now believed that the chip could be used in Mac units in 2023, with M3 Macs expected to arrive in the fall at the earliest. In addition, there are reportedly M3 versions of the MacBook Air and iMac also in development.
