The latest controversy in the Elon Musk and Twitter novel is apparently involving the rapper and fashion icon Kanye West as the celebrity’s account on the social media platform was reportedly locked for publishing antisemitic content.
Two years had passed since West published something on his official Twitter account but he appears to have fled to the platform since 7 October after his Instagram account was blocked due to a violation of its policies.
The spat with Instagram appears to be linked with an image of a conversation “Ye” had with Sean “Diddy” Combs where he accused him of being controlled by “the Jewish people”.
The Instagram post has now been deleted and Meta Platforms (META), the parent company of Instagram, confirmed to NPR that the image violated its policies.
What Happened with Kanye West on Twitter?
Kanye resumed his activities on Twitter on 7 October when he published a cryptic picture of a hat that said “2024”. Some have speculated that the rapper is referring to the possibility of running for office once again two years from now after President Joe Biden’s first term comes to an end.
A day after, Ye posted a tweet that depicted an image of him and Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, singing karaoke. The rapper used the tweet to publicly call out the tech billionaire for kicking him out of his company’s social media platform.

This is the point when Elon Musk enters the conversation as he commented on Kanye’s tweet by welcoming him to Twitter. The rapper may have taken this as a pad on the back to keep making controversial comments involving the Jewish community.
“I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death [sic] con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE”, Ye tweeted. He continued: “You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda”.
Twitter eliminated the post only hours after it was published and the company confirmed to TechCrunch that the rapper’s account was locked due to a violation of the platform’s policies.
Kanye West has been recently criticized for a stunt he made during the Paris fashion week where he wore a shirt that showcased the phrase “White Lives Matter”. This phrase has been used by white supremacists in response to the “Black Lives Matter” campaign that intensified after the wrongful death of George Floyd.
It is unclear if Elon Musk was aware of Kanye’s antisemitic comments on Instagram when he welcomed back the artist to the platform he may soon own but the events have raised the eyebrows of users, journalists, regulators, and analysts who saw Musk’s welcome message as an indirect approval of Ye’s recent behavior.
In this regard, the exchange could be a hint of how Musk plans to approach the matter of content regulation as the billionaire stated that free speech should be what Twitter is about. A place “where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated”, the founder of SpaceX commented back in April when the acquisition was announced.
Musk is Once Again Attempting to Complete the Acquisition of Twitter
After months of controversy, Musk is reportedly completing the acquisition of the social media platform for $44 billion or $54.20 per share, possibly to avoid being caught up in a lengthy court proceeding that could end up costing him a lot of money and demand a significant amount of his time.
The billionaire’s legal team filed a letter with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that demanded an immediate cease to all legal proceedings concerning Twitter’s case against him.
Musk initially backed down from the deal due to allegations that the firm misled him by underestimating the number of spam accounts and bots within the platform and the impact that these bad actors had on the community.
