Apple Pay will be available to Walt Disney World guests in Orlando, Fla. starting December 24.
It will be part of Disney’s MyMagic+program, which was rolled out last year. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users will be able to make contactless payments at the park’s stores, bars, quick-service restaurants and ticket booths. Only places like table-service eateries that use portable payment terminals will not be using the system. The program also lets visitors wear touch-sensitive MagicBands and cards to enter theme parks, hotel rooms and charge up food and merchandise.
How it works is this. Apple Pay will allow users to pay for items simply by moving the phone within reach of a supported terminal or other payments system. Even though Apple Pay is available with the new iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3, only the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus includes the necessary near-field communication (NFC) technology to enable users to make purchases.
A Disney spokesperson said that guests of Walt Disney World will be able to tell which areas accept Apple Pay by looking for the EMVCo symbol. Walt Disney World welcomes around 18 million visitors a year and was one of the first companies to get involved with Apple Pay when it launched in October. According to WDWMagic, Google Wallet and contactless RFID credit cards will also accepted.
The Disneyland resort in California will be expecting the payment system next year.
Apple wants to grow and recently announced they had partnerships with 220,000 stores using Apple Pay. Retailers include Macy’s, Walgreens, Subway, McDonalds, and Whole Foods.
