Having set up a number of businesses myself, when I was sent this amusing video about the importance of the little things that make a big difference in business it really struck a cord. It’s spot on. All entrepreneurs out there, I’m sure, have their own ‘little things’, without which their days would be that much less productive.

For me there are five little things I need that make a huge difference to my productivity which I thought I’d share in the hope that it may be useful to other business people out there:

Evernote-logo-e1362251497276 Evernote: I use this cross-device app for everything. It’s billed as a note taking app but it’s also my todo list, read-it-later tool, business card saver, mind mapper, receipt and invoice storage. It’s a tool that in theory could allow you to become completely paperless. Can’t recommend it enough.

trello_logo Trello: There are various project management tools out there, but this is the one I like best. It’s just really simple to use. It’s based on the old post-it note on the whiteboard model, allowing you to move tasks along a completion path that you can define yourself.

hr2096_blender A blender: Keeping your blood sugar levels at optimum levels is completely overlooked by most people. Low blood sugar creates loads of productivity sapping issues such as poor concentration, fatigue and sub-optimum cognitive function. I always have a big store of fruit and veg for smoothie making, which I find to be the ideal and quickest way to keep me working at my best.

spotify-logo-primary-vertical-light-background-rgb1 Good Spotify playlists: The effect that music has on productivity cannot be exaggerated. I have various playlists for different types of activity, for example, if I’m writing an article or a blog post then I need something chilled and repetitive like this:

But if I’m working on something more algorithmic and smashing my way through a todo list then this is my current go to playlist:

And finally…

uniball_eyepen Uni-ball eye pens. These are the Porsche 911 of pens! Well, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but it really upsets me writing with anything else. They’re just so smooth.

So there you go… I hope that one or two of those might help you. I’m also keen to know, what are the ‘little things’ that make your day that much easier? Tweet me @GusQuad with your suggestions using the #Odetokettle.
