Today I want to thank a friend of mine for ‘showing me the ropes’ at one of New York City’s best Farmer’s Markets.
It doesn’t seem like it would be a good fit for a blog post, but it really is, and here’s why.
I find farmer’s markets a little overwhelming. Particularly when there is an abundance of produce and an abundance of people. Not to mention when it’s 90 degrees and the temp is climbing.
If I’d gone to the market all on my own, I probably would have gotten a scone and maybe a dozen eggs and gone home, a bit overwhelmed, not knowing who the best vendors were for what and feeling pretty lost.
Instead, I had a lovely visit with a good friend… she introduced me to her favorite vendors for each item – dairy, meat, veggies, fruits, jams and honey and more. I had a guided tour and benefited from her multiple years of experience knowing which vendors have the best of what, and from her years of building relationships with them.
It was a beautiful (and sweaty – whew!) morning, and I came home laden with goodies that will satisfy me far more than anything from a local store.
So, what does this have to do with your business?
When you bump up against something that feels overwhelming, ask for some help from someone who’s been there before… someone who knows the ropes and can guide you to the best things for you. You get to save a lot of time and energy, and you’ll come away with a much better outcome than you would if you tried to go it alone.
