I don’t know about you, but I rarely have enough time in the day to accomplish everything I intend to. And if I take an honest look at my character defects, I must admit that time management isn’t one of my fortes.

Hence I’ve been doing research and seeking ways to “hack time management” so I can free up time and accomplish more throughout the day.

From reading numerous blog posts on time management, including an informative SlideShare presentation by Etienne Garbugli entitled “25 Time Management Hacks to Kickstart the New Year,” the following six suggestions have really hit home:

  • Eliminate the fear of failure – the faster you fail, the faster you accomplish your goals.
  • Don’t fret over getting your product/service/business perfect prior to launch. Perfection doesn’t exist anyway. Take imperfect action, learn from your mistakes, and reap the rewards!
  • Tackle your most important tasks at the beginning of the day when you’ve got the most energy and mental clarity.
  • Eliminate outside distractions.
  • The concept of “timeboxing” – allocate a set amount of time for every task and stick to it. This way, you train yourself to focus on the task at hand and accomplish tasks more efficiently.
  • Surround yourself with productive and positive people! This is a big one for me. Such a simple concept, but I have several negative family members and friends who don’t support my entrepreneurial endeavors. It’s amazing how much negative people can increase self-doubt and decrease self-confidence (if you allow them to “rent space in your head”). But it’s equally amazing how much my confidence and determination has increased now that I’ve distanced myself from these people!

I hope at least one of the above time management tips resonates with you so you can apply to your life, improve your productivity, and get more done!
