Sometimes, it can be tough to stay on track when you’re running a business. During those times, a little motivation is necessary. And who better to give advice than those who make careers out of staying on track (and in the fast lane): NASCAR drivers.

It doesn’t matter how much success you enjoy early on. At some point, a moment will come when you and your team begin to doubt everything you’ve achieved. Don’t be deterred in those moments, and don’t give up on your goals. Have confidence in your strategy and dedication — and in knowing that you’ve worked many late nights to reach this point. Life is often a series of failures that teach us how to be successful. Use failures and achievements as motivation to propel you further.

Sometimes, just telling your teammates they can achieve something isn’t enough. To get the most out of your employees, help them believe they can succeed. I know I have several personalities to motivate every day. I might be more serious with some team members and more laid-back with others. It’s never been about being buddies; it’s about bringing out the best in each member of my team.

Keep these principles close to heart and continue working hard, and you’ll be rewarded. Once you reach the top of the mountain, remember the people who helped get you there, and relish your shared success with them.
