Kevin Love seemingly has a future as a comedian long after his NBA career might be all said and done.

The newly minted Cleveland Cavaliers star forward forcefully, albeit jokingly, responded this week to all the accusatory speculation about his and star teammate Kyrie Irving’s pregame handshake ritual where some have concluded it looked as if the two were assimilating smoking marijuana.

“Whatever we were doing with our hands was about as true as me going to the Lakers,” Love told the Akron Beacon Journal of all the endless rumors about him being hellbent interested in joining his hometown team. “Going to the Lakers, I don’t know where someone got that.”

Many have openly suggested the handshake shared by Love and Irving appears to have the two of them smoking a joint at the climax. Even Love now concedes it looked worse that what he actually meant it to be.

“I don’t know why it was so hard for people to realize we were actually curling our mustache,” he said. “I guess because I had my fingers in the wrong place. But looking at the tape, film don’t lie. It does look like we’re doing something bad, but that’s not the case.”

Love joined the Cavs this summer in a blockbuster trade that sent overall top draft pick Andrew Wiggins to the Minnesota Timberwolves following the signing of native son and four-time league MVP LeBron James.

Their 1-3 start aside, the Cavs are overwhelmingly viewed as one of the Eastern Conference’s best teams and overall favorites to walk away with a 2014-15 NBA chip. In his first six NBA seasons with the Wolves, Love has yet to make a playoff appearance, seemingly stoking his excitement about now being teamed  with the All-Star likes of James and Irving all the more.
