Just like the NFL Redzone, Direct TV offers an all-in-one channel for fans to experience the Open Championship starting July 19-22, 2012. On the Open Mix channel (ch. 701) viewers can watch up to four channels in HD at one time and get real-time scores from all the players. These channels include ESPN and 3 feature channels that will focus on particular areas of The Royal Lytham and St. Annes Golf Clubs. For you avid golf fans, this is the ideal channel so you will not miss any action.
Viewers of the channel also have 24-hour access to an interactive menu of features. You can set up custom tracking to follow your favorite players, view the current top 5 players on the field, and get expanded stats including driving distance, fairway hits, and other stats. This interactive menu is available through the RED color key button on your remote.
Along with Direct TV, ESPN is looking to capture as much action for their fans. ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPN Radio, and WatchESPN all have times schedule to show the Open Championship. But more importantly, ESPN will continue to add technical elements to the broadcast by using a Flight Tracker and by introducing a new “Virtual Aerial “feature. The Flight Tracker will track the ball from front and behind with a virtual line of the shot. The Virtual Aerial feature will allow viewers to see the impact of the weather and course conditions for a shot with an aerial view. Both features give the fans more insight on the player’s skill and strategy for each hole. Tune in to Direct TV and/or ESPN to watch some of your favorite golfers tee it up in Lancashire, England.
