The biggest game of the college football season commences tonight when the Alabama Roll Tide take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Leading prognosticators like the syndicate desk over at Sportslynx.com are predicting that the Roll Tide will blow out the Irish and cover the current point spread of  9.5 points. While other handicappers and experts from ESPN, CBS Sports, and NBC’s Pro Football talk think that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are going to pull off a surprising upset victory in tonights college football season finale.

The game kicks off tonight at 8:30 eastern standard time at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida which is also home to the Miami Dolphins. During the regular season Alabama went 12-1 with their only loss coming in November to Texas A & M. They are looking to win back to back title games against the undefeated Notre Dame Fighting Irish who finished the regular season at 12-0. When the line first came out most sportsbooks in Las Vegas, Nevada had the Crimson Tide as high as 9 point favorites since their opponent hasn’t been to a championship game in over 20 years.

Historically the favorites in the BCS championship games are 4-1 against the spread in the last 5 games. All of these games have been won by an SEC team which is home to the strongest football team. The roll tide covered 4 of their last bowl games which also includes their championship game this time last year over rival LSU. The fighting Irish on the other hand have a record of just 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 bowl games .

On the offensive Notre Dame is ranked at 76 in the NCAA with just 26.8 points per game against the Crimson Tide whose defense is ranked as the second best allowing just 10.7 points per game. The Irish has a strong passing attack with 218.8 yards per game which is more than Alabama has given up on average on the passing front with 166.2 yards per game.

Defensively, the Crimson Tide feature the league’s Number 3 rated on the road run defense, allowing a remarkable 78.4 yards per game. Notre Dame, meanwhile, ranks No. 39 in rushing offense at home.
