With social media constantly evolving, it’s always important to know what is going on user demographic wise on each network, especially from a business perspective.
Did you know that LinkedIn appeals to men, those with a high-level income and live in sub-urban residents and 21% of all internet users, use Pinterest? Facebook is the most popular social networking site among adults and 7 in every 10 internet users actually have a Facebook account.
Facebook’s demographic hasn’t changed much over the years and is still used by more females, than males (76% to 66%) and used by 18-29 year olds more than any other demographic at 84% with the 30-49 year old demographic at 79%.
When looking at the ethnicity of Facebook users, 71% are white, 73% hispanic and 76% black with a high percentage of users earning between $30-$49K and less than $30K, both at 76%.
Looking at Twitter, 18% of internet users, have a Twitter account. Surprisingly, 19% of Twitter users earn more than $75+ and there are more female, than male users.
The age demographic of Twitter is similar to those of Instagram. 31% of users are in the 18-29 year old group, 19% in the 30-49 age demographic, 9% of Twitter users are in the 50-64 age group and finally, 5% of Twitter users make up the 65+ age group.
17% of internet users, have an Instagram account and of these 17%, a huge 37% are in the 18-29 year old age demographic, as expected. 21% of Instagram users are college educated and is used by women more than men.
LinkedIn has slightly different statistics compared to all the other social networks. LinkedIn is a male dominated network and 38% of its users are educated higher than college. The popular age demographics for instagram users are those aged between 30-49 years old (27%) and 50-64 years old (24%).
