The globally-celebrated Social Media Week kicks off on Monday, with twelve cities around the world taking part in the festivities.
In true social media monitoring fashion, we’ve decided to focus our eye, or rather ears, on listening to the buzz surrounding the event for each city.
The cities included are:
- Hamburg
- Hong Kong
- London
- Miami
- New York
- Paris
- San Francisco
- Sao Paulo
- Singapore
- Tokyo
- Toronto
- Washington DC
We’ve made it a competition between the host cities, feeding the unwitting social media commenters into our dataviz and ranking each city by the number of mentions it gets across both Twitter and Facebook.
We’ve set up a query in the Brandwatch app to track all mentions of the different locations with regard to Social Media Week, and put this little infographic on our home page.
The graph also splits the mentions into Facebook and Twitter instances, though Twitter is likely to enjoy the lion’s share of discussion.
It’s going to go live as the week begins on Monday, so check our website from the start of next week. You can get involved simply by talking about Social Media Week and one of the cities, using either hashtags, general tweets/posts or even by talking with the profiles for each city.
Any way this can include Weibo for HK? Much bigger there than Twutter. There’s probably something else in Tokyo as well.
Hey Jeffrey, we do cover Weibo, but our coverage isn’t 100% complere. We’re working on improving it and we have this query running in multiple languages too. For the time being however, we’re just looking at Twitter and Facebook for this project, which may unfairly disadvantage Hong Kong’s chances. Sorry!
Hey Joel, our company http://www.benards.com were responsible for building the backend social engine that powers all the visualizations and infographics for socialmediaweek.org. What’s a good time for us to chat, would love to see what you’re doing on the Weibo front. http://www.benards.com is not necessarily in the monitoring business, but we’re always on the lookout for great software companies that have synergy to what we do. Let’s chat.
Hey Vince, sounds good to me. You can contact me – [email protected] and we can arrange a chat.
