Klout’s Klout score is 89.
But let’s take a closer look and see what we can find out about Klout, from Klout.
Also, make sure you read the entire post, because somewhere in there, I will reveal how I boosted my score by more than 10 points the easy way.
Klout Style
According to Klout, Klout is a Celebrity. HA!
Clearly Klout is wrong on that one. Ashton Kutcher is a celebrity. Lady Gaga is a celebrity. Is Klout a celebrity? Can an online service BE a celebrity?
I vote a big fat NO on that one.
Topics
What topics is Klout influential about?
I find this list hilarious. A “Celebrity” thats influential about “Technology”? There’s a rare find. Congrats on all the success, Klout.
Klout is Influential about Klout…well, I guess they got that one right. :-)
Social Media Strategy? Really?
Klout does 2 things that rub me the wrong way. First, they use opt-out model. In other words, if you’re on Twitter, you’re on Klout, whether you like it or not.
In terms of game design (and make no mistake, Klout is simply a game like Farmville’s a game), forced-onboarding creates a bad user experience. No wonder the backlash.
And second, WE are their product. In return for creating a measuring cup, Klout might give you a “perk” supplied by a company that’s trying top sell you stuff.
A “Perk” is an opportunity to sign up an email list so that a business can advertise to you directly. Sometimes, a “Perk” is something real. Those times are heavily promoted by Klout.
Algorithms. ALGORITHMS? Really?
Klout is bunch of geeks having fun in the sandbox. For that I can’t fault them. Along the way, they’ve been forced to choose a business model. They chose a shitty one.
Score Analysis
“Klout has built a very large and engaged network through high quality, trustworthy content.” Really?
Where? When? Also, I noticed your score’s been slippin’. What’s going on, Klout? Need help? I know someone who works there, I can make the introductions. :-)
Also, I’ve noticed your Network’s “true reach” has diminished. I’m concerned. Is everything ok?
Perks
For shame, Klout. For shame.
You participated in ONLY ONE perk? And you didn’t even leave feedback?
I don’t blame you. Who’d want a shitty screen wipe for a perk, anyways.
Yes, the “Perk” was a screen wipe for your laptop.
Influencers
Who is Klout influenced by?
“Influenced by” means that Klout retweets and shares content by these other accounts.
In this case, the biggest Klout influencer is Mashable. Way to step out of the box on that one, Klout.
Why Choose Klout?
Why do companies choose Klout?
The answer is, many businesses have been caught with their pants down and have no idea how to “do” Social Media. Klout provides an easy answer with “measurable” impact.
The answer is, we’ll give people schwag, and they will let us market to them directly. These people might even write about us. And Klout gets to play matchmaker whilst extracting a fee.
How To Improve Your Score?
Ignore Klout. That’s it! I’m totally serious.
I didn’t log into Klout for over a month and in that time my score went from 50ish to 66.
Ok, ok. If you want to actually do something that might kick up your Klout score, join Triberr.
We didn’t build Triberr to boost anyone’s score, but Klout’s algorithm is kinda dumb and only looks at @mentions…and with Triberr you’ll get bunch of those.
- What’s YOUR Klout score?
Wait..no, nevermind. Who cares, right?
Dino, Klout is just one of many influencer measurement companies. All have flaws. But one thing is certain…influencer measurement is important in today’s interactive/social media discussion, and Klout is a leader in that discussion. The people with the most to lose vehemently dislike services such as K most vocal are bloggers, who you have a close association with. My POV – Klout is here to stay, so everyone should just put it in perspective because many people and companies do care.
