Top Twitter Trend of the Week: Super Bowl 2014
I won’t hash out each and every play during this past week’s Seahawks win at the 48th Super Bowl. The Seattle Seahawks dominated throughout the entire game, ending the game with a score of 43-8 against the Denver Broncos. If you’ve spent any time on social media in the past week, you have undoubtably seen posts talking about the game, but also posts about the half-time show and of course, the commercials.
There was one Super Bowl ad that started controversy: a Coca Cola ad aired during the Super Bowl that inspired a fierce racist and xenophobic backlash on Twitter. The ad (seen above) features people singing a multilingual version of the song America the Beautiful.

Top Entertainment: Dylan Farrow and Woody Allen
The feud between Woody Allen and adopted daughter Dylan Farrow raged on this week, after Farrow wrote about her harrowing childhood under the care of Woody Allen. She talks of the backlash followed after claiming Woody Allen had sexually abused her, as well as the ordeal itself.
“It took all of my strength and all of my emotional fortitude to do what I did this week in the hope that it would put the truth out there,” Dylan Farrow told People Magazine. “I don’t have money or publicists or limos or fancy apartments in Manhattan. All I have is the truth and that is all I put out there.”
Of course Twitter saw it’s fair share of opinions- whether it was kind words of support or appalling statements thrown. It seems as though many people using Twitter just aren’t sure what to think of the situation. Some Twitterers vow to never watch a Woody Allen movie again, while others are struck with disbelief.

Top Holiday: Groundhog Day
Did you have your hopes up for an early spring? Well don’t start pulling out your bathing suits and flip flops quite yet; Punxsutawney Phil let us know that there are six more weeks of winter to look forward too. Twitter lit up as Tweets flew in that brought awareness to just what the groundhog’s predictions were.
I can’t help but mention the huge amount of movie reference’s from Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. What can I say, every once in a while, Twitterers love a good movie reference.

Top Culture: Bill Nye vs Ken Ham
A debate between Bill Nye the “Science Guy” and founder and CEO of Kentucky’s Creation Museum, Ken Ham happened online this week, firing up conversation on Twitter and other social media networks. Nye, who was defending the evidence behind evolution debated Ham for over two hours; including 30-minute presentations and Q&A section over evolution vs. creation.
Thousands of people streamed the debate live, and many of those voiced their opinions on social media. Looking through Tweets and statuses, it’s easy to see who is a little bit biased on either side.
