The Good Web Guide recently conducted a survey along with the help of SurveySeat in the UK to find out who the top websites, apps and blogs of 2012 were. Over 1,000 people responded to this survey which included questions such as ‘What is your favourite all time website?’ and ‘Name a favourite web entrepreneur’. Now, time to place your bets and check out the round up of this years all time favourites.
Favourite All Time Website of 2012…
Drum roll please, as the votes have been counted and this years favourite website is: Facebook! As if we didn’t know that one was coming. What is surprising however is that in second place, with only ONE less vote was Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert! Third place was Amazon with eBay looking sadly on in fourth place. The survey bought up some other interesting results (such as 3 fans of the Daily Mail) which included the BBC website being more popular than Google. Is that just because people don’t realise how much they need Google? Maybe it is seen as a search engine rather than a ‘website’. Twitter looked pretty dismal with a total of 18 votes, just 6 more than IMDB.
All in all, the winner of this survey is no surprise, but those that are trailing behind may be pretty miffed! Especially Twitter.
Favourite Apps of 2012…
And the winner is…Facebook, again. It seems as though this social networking giant has its fingers in all the pies, with their app also being the favourite of all time. Games were a hot choice in the votes though. Angry Birds led the way, closely followed by SongPop and Words With Friends. Twitter will be happier with their performance in this one, as they come third beneath Angry Birds. Ebay pips Amazon to the post in the battle of the apps, which should cheer them up too. Finally, Instagram (owned by Facebook) made a strong appearance in the survey as well.
The Web Entrepreneur of 2012…
If you don’t get the answer to this one then you clearly have not been paying attention. The favourite web entrepreneur of 2012 is Mark Zuckerberg (did you know that spell check tries to correct Zuckerberg to bloodsucker?). Or as known quite a lot in the survey as ‘The Facebook Guy’. Clearly, not enough of these people have watched The Social Network. Alas, second place was Martin Lewis of Money Saving Expert fame. His helping others save money was not enough to beat Facebook Guy, but it was a pretty close call. There was a lot of love for Steve Jobs in the results, but a bit more love for Bill Gates (controversial). Finally, Martha Fox received a lot of support too. It was nice to see a female face in the male dominated results.
Conclusion
There we have it. It seems as though Facebook can do no wrong, yet again! It is no surprise that the social network topped all three charts, although the margin between them and Twitter is quite a big one. It is good to see Martin Lewis and Money Saving Expert doing well again this year, seeing as there is a lot of hard work and effort that goes into that website. Perhaps next year they can take the crown and Facebook will be on the way out. All they have to do is host some type of farming game where you save money and share crops with your friends. You heard it here first, Money Saving Expert’s Farmvillionnaires!
