For years, I’ve been showing clients annually updated versions of this Erik Qualman video and because they so often requested I send them the link, so they can email it to their staff and start “getting them on board” with the social media revolution, I think it’s time to also start making sure potential clients and people just looking for more social media information see it as well.
Social media represents a monumental shift in the way that we as humans learn, communicate, connect and do business.
While many people reference this era as the Information Age, I’ve been saying it really is a shift into the Communication Age. While we do now have access to almost all the data, statistics and ideas (“information”), it is the ability to access it that has changed.
Anyone you want to connect with, be it a book author, filmmaker, journalist, politician, business owner or thought leader can be found on social media, and if you can’t find the individual person, you will be able to find and connect with people just like them.
Don Tapscott, author of Macrowikinomics (an author I’ve recently connected with on Facebook) also agrees this is a Communication Age/Era, adding further that the massive volume and shifting nature of information available through social channels is ushering businesses rapidly into a new way of doing business where collaboration and group decision making in all roles adds to the business intelligence and the ability to make better decisions, faster, for better results. Businesses who embrace social media data and context in this way are using a “single version of the truth”.
Now, anyone with an idea or knowledge about any subject can begin to communicate it on social networks, and you can be found by people around the world who agree with you or want to debate the subject.
And if you’re looking for the video version, en Francaise, here it is:
There is also a very entertaining parody video I recently found:
Social media ROI does exist, will your business? If you’re having a college intern running your business social media, you may face extinction! (also by Socialnomics author Erik Qualman)
