As part of Travel & Hospitality Week, we’re pitting the British against the French—their airlines that is. In today’s Social Media Face Off: Travel Edition, we’re putting British Airways and Air France head-to-head to see which airline brand flies high in social media.

In order to compare the brands in social, we set up search streams for each brand in the uberVU platform, including any variations in spelling such as “Air France” or “AirFrance.” We’ve compared the results from the past two weeks to determine our winner.

Let’s see which brand is taking off in social.

Round One: Mentions

British Airways takes the first win with 19,354 mentions, outperforming Air France’s
10,351 mentions.

Winner: British Airways

Round Two: Sentiment

We know British Airways had the higher amount of overall mentions, but what’s really telling is which brand had the most positive mentions. After breaking down the mentions for each brand it looks like Air France comes out on top with 27% of its mentions were positive, topping the 25% posted by British Airways.

Winner: Air France

Round Three: Engagement

With a tie score of 1-1, let’s see how the brands fared with engagement. In order to determine which brand is procuring the most engagement across the social web, we’ve compared the number of RTs, Likes and Shares. Unfortunately for Air France, it doesn’t come close to matching the numbers put up by British Airways and the Brits seal the win, dominating in all three categories.

Winner: British Airways

Overall Winner: British Airways

Looks like social has been delayed for Air France, but we’ve cleared British Airways for takeoff! With wins in overall mentions and engagement, we declare the winner of this Social Media Face Off to be British Airways.
