Join The YouTube Partner Program
YouTube’s “Partner Program”, which is their version of AdSense ads, is now open to all video creators.
This will allow you to monetize any of the videos on your YouTube channel and some generate cash off of the views of your videos.
The new version of the program is somewhat different than the former version (Channel Partners) however which may or may still exist.
Here’s a brief introduction to enabling the program settings from Gideon Shalwick.
Now everyone can monetize their videos.
However, unlike the old version of the program, no channel branding is available. This is rather disappointing as that branding is really useful.
Additional Thoughts:
You might notice that I monetize very few of my videos with ads. It’s probably also telling that Gideon, who generates a lot of views, chose not to monetize this video either.
Whether he chose not to monetize because he was showing some screen views of YouTube (can’t monetize any content that you do not own) or for the reasons I do of minimizing viewer hassle on any video that is not already viral… is hard to say.
I know a couple video bloggers that make about $20/30 month this way, which adds up but most small-timers will earn far less than that and risk traffic losses if they annoy their readers.
I *DO* think you should enable the program, so you have it available to turn onto a select video if one DOES go viral. However, for your day to day videos, some careful thought is required.
PS: Google/YouTube is also currently offering a $75 voucher to businesses that sign up to run video ads on others videos. (Similar to an AdSense voucher.)
