The other day I came across an article that recommended Zoomsphere for social media monitoring. As an avid user of TweetDeck, Hootsuite, Bufferapp, SocialBro, and Timely.is, I thought I needed another free tool to analyze my social efforts (I wish I was kidding). As it turns out, Zoomsphere is actually a pretty interesting tool because it that works closely with Google+ and has a layout similar to Pinterest—two of the newest social networks.
Zoomsphere allows users to view the total number of fans and trending topics across Google+, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. This free tool gives charts and graphs that visually demonstrate social trends, makes it easy to monitor any mentions of a company or an individual, and gives users an alert each time something is being said about a competitor. Below is a screenshot of a Zoompshere board:
As you can see, I was able to select in the top left hand corner which social network I was interested in viewing. I choose Facebook, and it appears that The Hunger Games is getting the most attention (can’t wait!). Below is shows what items are currently getting the most fans in the United States. Apparently Facebook still takes the crown on this one. Consider some of the other features that make ZoomSphere different:
What Makes ZoomSphere Unique?
Right off the bat, ZoomSphere is great because it works with six social networks as opposed to just two or three. The tool also allows users to sort by four different metrics: 1) followers count; 2) tweets count; 3) user mentions count, and 4) Klout score.
However, as cool as some of these filters may be, the real excitement in ZoomSphere is the ability to sort by country. Because more and more social networks are working to connect people from opposite ends of the globe, it is not uncommon to see businesses targeting those outside the country. Below is a screenshot of ZoomSphere asking you to choose a country:
This chart will break down the number of users on certain networks and whether that number is increasing, decreasing, or staying the same. More than anything, these statistics are just interesting. I have selected “all” in the screenshot above, but you can sort by continent, regions in a continent, and even biggest cities.
Another feature that makes Zoomsphere unique is the ability comment and connect with others about what is trending on other networks. As you can see from the screenshot below, you can connect with others and leave comments in a fashion almost identical to Pinterest.
Is Zoomsphere Really Worth the Effort?
This is a great tool if you’re interested in seeing which accounts are growing the fastest and which are at a standstill. However, these trending accounts are often celebrities and pop culture news stories, which isn’t helpful to many businesses or those starting a business and looking for the next bit thing. If you’re an individual and looking for some fun, this is a really great tool; if you’re a business looking to improve a company brand and promote content, Zoomsphere has a long way to go.
